Macbeth: Act 5: Scene 5

Characters: Macbeth, Seyton, 

Location: Dunsinane, Within the castle. 

Events:Seyton tells Macbeth that the queen is dead, Macbeth then says that she was going to die later anyway and that the news was bound to come at some point. and how life is an illusion and told by an idiot. and then a messenger comes in to tell Macbeth that he saw the forest moving and Macbeth calls him a liar, to this the messenger responds punish me if it’s not true but it is moving, Macbeth describes the death he will suffer if he is lying,but if he is telling the truth he can do what he has said to him the deal is “I’ll hang you alive from the nearest tree until you die of hunger. If what you say is true, you can do the same to me”. Macbeth then says to himself that his confidence is failing and he feels that the devils (witches)  have lied to him. Macbeth is tired of living and that there is no use running to staying here and he would love to see the world plunge into chaos and then says at least we’ll die with our amour on. 

Quotes: “the queen my lord, is dead.”

 “My confidence is failing. I’m starting to doubt the lies the devil told me, which sounded like truth.”- Macbeth.

 “Life is nothing more than an illusion. It’s like a poor actor who struts and worries for his hour on the stage and then is never heard from again. Life is a story told by an idiot, full of noise and emotional disturbance but devoid of meaning.”- Macbeth
